Waswo X. Waswo & R. Vijay, In The Garden of Archetypes 3 / COURTESY GALLERY ESPACE

Waswo X. Waswo is an American artist living in Udaipur. His work examines both ethnography that is linked to the colonial era and fantasy that emanated from traditional Indian portrait studios and miniature paintings. Waswo assumes various characters in his works like 'The Evil Orientalist', 'The Photowallah', and more recently, 'The Observationist in a Stolen Garden' – blurring the boundaries between homage and critique; parody and self-examination. He regularly collaborates with various local artists, including the miniaturist, R. Vijay, and the hand-colourist, Rajesh Soni.

We manage Waswo's PR and his studio newsletter that goes out to his patrons and friends. We also consulted with Waswo on his new book, Gauri Dancers, which was published in 2019 by Mapin. The book is available on Amazon worldwide.
