Nila is a non-profit organisation that works with an ever-growing community of artisans across all stages of the textile value chain, right from farming to spinning, weaving and dyeing. In 2019, they opened a physical space, Nila House, in a beautifully restored heritage haveli in Jaipur. They welcome visitors from across the world to explore their studio and work rooms, and attend their program of exhibitions, talks and cultural performances. Nila also collaborates with artisans across India to create beautiful handmade clothing and products for the home. For those of us who aren’t in Jaipur, the collection is available on their online shop with international shipping.

We draw so much inspiration from Nila, with whom we have been working since March 2023. Alongside their public program, their main mission is to support and nurture a network of artisans through sensitively developed skill building and craft revival programs. A significant part of their work is with women’s organisations, creating economic and social empowerment through craft. As of October 2023, Nila has been working with artisans and artisan-led organisations across seventeen states in India. Follow their Instagram page, which we manage in close collaboration with their team.
